I love finding new ways to stay organized. A freshly organized pantry or closet is the best feeling. But have you ever sat down to organize your day?
I have found having a plan for the day just helps the day run a little smoother. Here are a few things I have been doing to get through our days.
1. Priority Tasks
Write down three tasks that you really want to get done, do this the night before or the morning of. I usually write them down the night before, so I don’t forget.
You want to write down tasks that at the end of the day will make you feel accomplished.
2. Break Down those Tasks
You really want to get these done, so let’s break them down so they don’t seem as daunting.
For example, if you have Clean the Kitchen on your list break it down to:
- Unload dishwasher
- Reload dishwasher
- Hand wash pots
- Clean stove
- Wipe down counters
- Rinse sink
This way if you don’t have a decent chunk of time to focus on the kitchen (because kids) you can get one small step done and still work towards your goal. Check out my tips on how to keep a clean house as well!
3.Write Down the Rest of your Tasks
More than likely you will have a lot more than three tasks you want to get done during the day. Write those down as well and if you can get to them then cross them off! If not, you can easily carry them over to the next day and maybe make them one of your priority tasks for another day.
4. Use Time Blocking
I have been loving using time blocking. It allows you to plan out your whole day to the hour. I honestly thought using this method would make my days feel slower. But instead they fly by! It really helps you stay on track!
My mornings look a little like this
7am- 8am Coffee, kids up
9am-10am Clean up kitchen
ETC … It may seem a little excessive at first but when you know where your time is actually going during the day it doesn’t seem so bad.
My favorite online calendar that I have been loving recently is Artful Agenda you can sync all your calendars in one place and make it personal. Change the background, the fonts, the colors. It is also available on your phone, tablet, and computer!
5. Remove Any Distractions
My biggest distraction is my phone. So, during the times I have set aside to clean or do something else, I make sure my phone is on silent and I get it done. Sometimes I will even set a timer on my handy Alexa and try and get as much done as I can in that time. If the kids distract you while you are trying to accomplish one of your tasks maybe try doing that during nap time.
I use my Alexa to remind me to change my laundry! How many times have you put in a load of laundry and forgot about it and then it ends up smelling musty?
Also make sure you are drinking enough water; constant caffeine isn’t always going to keep you awake. And try and get outside when the sun is shinning or even open a window for some fresh air, that always keeps me awake and keeps me going.
